Are you passionate about electric vehicles?

Have you always wanted to try your skills at designing a battery pack for a racing vehicle?

You can do just that by taking part in QuickerSim’s 1st edition of the Battery Cooling Student Challenge!

In this competition, your task will be to design a battery pack that will power an electric vehicle during a 24-hours race. The team which will finish the most laps wins.

You will need to take various parameters into account:

  • Capacity – if you will need to recharge too often you will lose a lot of time
  • Mass – you cannot make the battery pack too big as well as you will lose your acceleration
  • Rapid charging – if you want to charge your battery pack quickly you need to remember about proper cooling
  • Thermal conditions – it will be a long race with high current profiles and rapid charging in between.  You need to provide suitable cooling with cooling plates.

You do not need to consider the mechanical strength of the battery pack – we want you to focus on the thermal design. And for that, we will provide you with the Q-Bat license and a package of tutorials to kick you off. With Q-Bat you will be able to easily simulate the thermal design of the entire battery pack in very long driving profiles. You do not need an HPC for that as well. Your PCs will do just fine! :)

What will the competition look like?
What will the competition look like?
  • On XX of November, we provide you with the requirements of the battery pack, Q-Bat license, battery cell data, and the Simulink model of the vehicle.
  • Then you have until XX of December to finish the battery pack model.
  • On XX of December, we will run all of the models and share the results of the race.
